The Maiden Harvest
Harvest season is upon us!
I decided to take a brief respite from this heat index nonsense to write a short, pictorial farm update: harvests have begun! A lively June was filled with weeding within the plastic rows to make sure the strawberry plants had as little competition as possible. This helps with yield and keeps pest pressure down, too.
I could spend several paragraphs talking about harvest beginning, the packaging process, strawberry plant physiology, etc., and while I will probably do that soon, I thought I'd let these pictures do the talking. Hope you enjoy!
Harvesting now occurs almost daily in order to get fruit to the co-ops. Currently we have drop offs to The Wedge Co-op on Tuesdays and Eastside Co-op and Mississippi Market Co-ops on Fridays, but will roll out more locations as yields increase in August. Stay tuned for more pics and updates!
