Locally Sourced Sweetness

Welcome to the first post of the TCBC "It's" series: It's Local!

I figured it would be nice to expand on all of the bold proclamations made on the front page of this site. So, I will make a blog post about each one of my claims, starting with the easiest one: TCBC is local. Located in beautiful Northfield, MN, TCBC is within striking distance of every location our fruit will be available at. If you're not sure where those locations are, make sure to follow our facebook page! The strawberry page of our website will also update with a list of vendors and typical delivery schedule, so you can make sure to be at the store when the fruit is at peak freshness. And boy, will they be fresh! Most dropoffs will be for fruit that was picked earlier that day.

So, does that even matter? What's the point of eating/buying local anyways? Well, that entirely depends on your personal values and priorities, but other than keeping money in your community, my next couple posts ("It's Sweet" and "It's Healthy") will outline a little bit of the science behind local food being better for you, especially for perishable goods like ours.

Another thing that's local about TCBC is the founder: me! I was born and raised in the Midwest, went to college at St. Olaf where our farm is currently located, did my Masters and PhD work at the University of Minnesota, and live in St. Paul. Minnesota has trained and treated me so well since I arrived in 2005, and now I want to give back all that knowledge back in the form of sweet strawbs almost all year long.
